This game is apart of the popular Phantasy Star game series, but it's one of the few that hasn't made it to America. It was given a Chinese adaptation as it's only localization. It still does feature heavily local multiplayer to take on big bad guys and story missions.
It also allows character creation to a pretty detailed extent which doesn't require familiarity with the language to enjoy. However, being a story-heavy game a lot of those details will be lost playing through it. If you like puzzle games, then this is a good one for you. This unfortunately never made it to the US, but it is one of the best puzzle games on the PS Vita, combining both Puyo Puyo and Tetris into a pretty intuitive game.
It is a solid game, but it's not the best game to get you into the genre, though it doesn't require understanding Japanese to play. This is essentially a huge crossover game between many popular mecha anime much like Blaze Blue Cross Tag Battle. This is essentially a story based beat-em-up game on Super Smash levels of crossover spanning past even the anime that was listed.
This title wasn't able to come over overseas—probably because it was simpler to do a crossover on such levels without having to worry about the other licensing companies wanting to take part—but it is an overall high quality release that could be worth looking at. Cyberpunk was a big letdown at launch. Despite all the hype and presentations that CD Projekt Red delivered, the actual launch was a pretty hot mess. There were all kinds of bugs and technical issues, some of which made the game completely unplayable on base model console platforms.
Despite that, the studio has continued to work on different patches to bring this game up to a level that not only met their expectations but the expectations of fans as well. Fortunately, it looks like the patches are moving in the right direction and this could be a solid video game to enjoy this year. With that said, players could tweak their protagonist character, V, into being more of an agile samurai warrior using blades as your main weapon of choice.
Do you remember Samurai Jack? This was an animated series that ran from to , though it was picked back up in to create a final season that wrapped up the narrative. Overall, the show followed a samurai named Jack who was tossed into different timelines after facing against an evil demonic character named Aku. Jack is then forced into finding a way back to his timeline to defeat Aku. Last year, in , we received a new video game installment for the IP that once again follows the same overall plot as the anime series.
Players can expect an action-adventure hack and slash video game where we once again attempt to track down and defeat Aku once and for all. Essentially, this is a narrative storyline that follows a struggle between the Taira Clan and the Minamoto Clan. Players are following two-characters, each with their own unique attributes.
While one is more nimble and fast with its attacks, the other provides more strength-based moves. It was a fun game at the time but I feel like this was one IP that was a bit overlooked.
Kenshi is everything that you make it to be. It takes place in an open-world post-apocalyptic setting with no real storyline. While the world is harsh and full of dangers, players can survive with ease just as long as they put in the effort of gathering resources, building up a squad, and carving out a piece of land to call your own.
As a result, you could be a thief, go into politics, or become an incredible warrior. This game can be a bit difficult to explain, but its one title well worth checking out and trying for yourself.
Chances are you already know about For Honor at this point. Here you can join a group seeking to take out other factions. You could join in with the samurai and use their various weapons again Vikings or knights. With that said, this game does feature a few different expansions which will grant players with more characters to pick from and even some storylines.
Onimusha takes place within Japan where we get a narrative story that mixes historical events with supernatural elements. Here players will be stepping into the role of a samurai that has to face demonic enemies.
Interestingly enough, the developers were trying to bring out a Resident Evil alternative that focused around samurai and ninjas. With that said, Onimusha has a few installments available with the first one being Onimusha: Warlords that came out However, in we received an HD remastered edition so you can enjoy this game on modern platforms today. This is a game that follows the last samurai on the remote Tsushima Island. Set in , players step into the role of Jin Sakai, who is the last person fighting back for the islands citizens after it was invaded by the Mongols.
The company is working on an original action title and a game based off a major comic license. Additional details were not provided at the press conference.

Set in , the game tells the story of a desperate fight between man, who is on the verge of extinction, and demons. You play as a witch named Alicia. Although the game clearly features some fantasy elements, it actually takes place in a realistic world setting. Bullet Witch is an action adventure with story sequences intermixed with gun fights and magic. Artoon CEO Naoto Oshima, one of the creative forces in the creation of the Sonic the Hedgehog series, is working directly on this title and promises a game that makes vampires scary once again.
Players take control of a special operative called John Lloyd and, having entered the city, must wipe out the vampires. The game will make heavy use of rain. A trailer shown at the press conference displayed realistic lighting and water effects. Artoon is working network features into this title. The game will feature some sort of gameplay system where players need to figure out who's a vampire and what they would do if they themselves were a vampire.
Online gameplay will involve competitive play of some form. Vampire Rain is set for Japanese release next Winter.
